The earth is precious. Beginning in 1970, the day of April 22nd was set aside to celebrate the earth and promote awareness and support of environmental protection. Today, Earth Day is celebrated in almost 200 countries across the world.

A Brief History

The first earth day, as mentioned above, was celebrated on April 22nd, 1970. Dennis Hayes spoke to a group of Columbia University students in the fall of 1969 to speak about his idea and plans for the event and recruited several of the students to help. John Lindsay, who was Mayor of New York at that time, agreed to shut down Fifth Avenue and later made Central Park available for celebration as well.

On the first earth day, over 20 million Americans gathered outdoors in their communities and joined the festivities. According to the Earth Day Network, Earth Day is now “the largest secular in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people every year.”

An Earth Day Treat at Belle Fiori – 25% Off Plants*!

Floral arrangements are great for events and special occasions, but nothing adds consistent life and character to your home or favorite space like blooming plants. A simple orchid plant acts as a pop of color on a side table. A lovely pot of azaleas can liven up spaces both indoors and out. A lush ficus tree is a great way to bring natural outdoor beauty indoors.

As our own special Earth Day celebration, we will be offering 25% off all green and blooming plants* from April 19th-22nd!
